Assets

Using the same Impact Analysis form, document the assets that you use in order to support the functions that you listed. Assets may consist of tangible items such as buildings, vehicles, or computers but would also include information such as client files or donor lists. They are usually grouped into the following categories:

  • Information, such as paper, microfiche, electronic data, and intellectual property
  • Systems, including both software and hardware
  • Equipment and facilities, such as buildings, offices, vehicles, and office equipment
  • People, both internal (employees, volunteers, Board members) and external (donors, corporate partners, suppliers) to your organization

For each asset you listed, rate its importance to your organization from 1 to 3, with 1 meaning low importance and 3 meaning critical importance. It may be helpful at this point to refer back to your organization's mission statement. What assets are critical to helping your organization achieve its mission? Base your rankings on this rather than on the purchase price of the asset.
