Glossary of Threats

Staffing Issues: Employee well-being is paramount to a business because employees are what keep the organization up and running. Staffing issues can range from employee screening, to staff counseling, to disgruntled workers. Successful employers are those who do not discount or minimize the problems and concerns that challenge staff members. This extends to hiring, promotion and termination, as well as day-to-day direction of employees. When an organization is hit by a traumatic event, it is important that recovery efforts include allowing employees to recover. Workplace violence is a serious staffing issue - one that can be especially devastating to an organization and its employees. It can happen anywhere at any time, and is not relegated to gunfire and physical abuse, but to any type of aggression. This includes sexual, verbal, and all other types of harassment.

Succession Planning: The permanent loss of one or more employees can have a lasting, damaging effect on any organization that is not properly prepared. An unexpected health ailment, such as a heart attack, can lead to death. It changes an organization's structure overnight. Unforeseen events, including automobile accidents, airplane explosions/crashes, and recreational mishaps can also have an instant impact on an organization. Succession plans establish the identity of the individual who will step in and assume the role of the departed CEO, executive, project manager, or other key employee, allowing the organization to make the transition and continue performing. The lack of a succession plan can lead to disorganization, negative press coverage, loss of customers/clients, and low employee morale.
